DAY 20-Pokhara to Kathmandu
Long bus trip back to Kathmandu today. There’s nothing that compares to the experience of riding down the Prithvi Highway. Inhaling diesel fumes and cow dung. They drive on the left side of the road and pass vehicles on curves, hills, blind spots–you name it. Don’t think they have traffic laws here.
Passed a less complicated military checkpoint than the one we came across in Gorka on the way to the trek starting point. Good thing we are Americans. The soldiers always smile and ignore us. In the meantime, though, they are practically cavity searching the Nepali people; including our trekking staff.
We finally arrived back in Kathmandu around 2:30pm. We promptly went forth with our souvenir shopping. I can’t step one foot outside our hotel without getting assailed by a taxi driver, a street peddler, a store vendor, and a local person begging for money. Tomorrow the trekking agency is giving us a city tour of Kathmandu. These guys have been awesomeness and the service flawless. Well worth the money.
